Undergraduate
The undergraduate department primarily recruits technical-track students, and focuses on practical instruction and theoretical guidance, with an emphasis on the application of confirmed theory, allowing graduates to assume work in construction planning, design and management in addition to the pursuit of further studies.
Master of Science Degree in Engineering Program for Full-time Students
The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering is subdivided into three graduate specialities including Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Management. Teaching and research in the Structural Engineering speciality covers structural engineering and civil engineering materials, while the Geotechnical Engineering speciality focuses on geotechnical engineering theory and practice. The field of Construction Management offers courses in construction management, architectural engineering along with professional courses related to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and property management. An addition to the requisite professional courses, each graduate speciality also offers courses tied to the research of specific faculty members.
Special Master’s Program for Part-time Students
The Special Master’s Program for Part-time Students focuses on instruction and research in construction management, property management and construction engineering. Classes are held all day Saturday to fit in with the schedules of professional students. Graduation requires 36 credits, including 6 for the Master’s Thesis or technical report. Students have two years to finish their coursework, and are awarded the degree on completion of the thesis. Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and must have at least two years of full-time relevant work experience.
PhD Program
The PhD program offers instruction and research guidance in construction engineering and construction management. Instruction in the construction engineering track covers structural engineering, construction materials, and geotechnical engineering theory and practice, while the construction management track offers instruction in construction management, construction engineering and property management.
Cross-Strait Undergraduate Program
To expand cross-Strait academic and cultural exchanges, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology and Fujian Institute of Technology have established a program to students to spend their 3rd year enrolled in special courses in each other’s engineering schools. In the Construction Engineering Department, these students study theory and practice and study civil engineering courses. The Department provides an excellent learning and living environment and, during their year in Taiwan, exchange students not only develop their professional knowledge, but are also fully integrated into the local society and lifestyle. In 2012 to 2017, a total of 468 exchange students completed this program.
